Before and after
Don't know why, I suddenly wanted to cook something really hearty and English (maybe it is the cold winter). So my cravings led me to making a simple shepherds pie dish which was yummy, hehe! Look at the pictures - now you see it...... now you don't!

creamed corn and extras
As you can see from the title, the reason I made this dinner was because of the delicious american dish - creamed corn. I always wanted to make it myself so I could have a taste of how it would be like. So I had to come up with a main dish that would go along with this side dish. After a long walk in the supermarket, I finally decided to make a mushroom chicken dish with some extra vegetables.
I actually felt extremely full after having this dinner, maybe I over-estimated the amount of food needed, but I guess when it comes to food, having more is always better then having less. =)

Char Siu Chow Fan
This time I wanted to fry some rice with really good ingredients, such as lap cheung, long beans, carrots, prawns, eggs and even the oil used had to be "chu yao zha" just to make it a little tastier. I did thought of adding char siu as one of the ingredients, but decided not to because it seemed a bit of a waste since char siu should be able to stand out as an extra side dish.
I looked up some good char siu recipes and found that the sauce for making char siu isn't really hard to make (at least for the home-made version anyway). However, it is the cooking that requires lots of patience. Cooking char siu requires a good control on the temperature and timing with regular basting of the char siu while it is roasting in the oven. If you do it correctly, you will have a beautiful piece of meat charred on the outside, tender and moist inside.
After an interesting first attempt, I didn't make the perfect char siu, but given it was the first time I am doing a home-made char siu, I am satisfied! =)

面粉糕 (mian fen gao)
This time I tried making "mian fen gao"(flat noodles) , it required alot of work since I had to make the noodles from scratch, but the end result was satisfying (since it was my first try on the dish). Let’s just have a brief through the ingredients:
- Prepare really good soup for the noodles (at least 2-3 hours of cooking).
- Make noodles out of flour, water, pinch of salt, egg yolk(optional), and other herbs or spices for flavoring(optional).
- Cook two types of pork: minced pork cooked with garlic and ginger and thinly sliced pork covered with egg white.
- Fish cake
- Fresh green vegetable.
Once everything is cooked, place them all into one bowl, pour in the piping hot soup and enjoy your meal!

Nasi lemak
Yes, after being deprived of Nasi lemak for sometime, it is about time I decided to make my own version of the popular Malaysian dish that everyone loves. It is not the authentic replicate of the Nasi lemak, but enough to satisfy myself and some friends who came over for the meal.
As you can see we had quite a bit of food. The reason being we had two versions of sambal and two curries to choose from (actually it is one curry and one rendang). We even asked a friend to "tarik" some english tea to go with the whole Nasi Lemak theme... =)

New years dinner!
The theme for the meal was "Bak Kut Teh" haha! So I prepared the BKT with some side dishes (bean sprouts, green vegetable, yao tiu, fried fu chuk and the best compliment to BKT - oil rice) My flat mate also prepared Ma Po Taufu. So as you can see, we had quite a feast.=)
